White Mass 2016

The St. Andre Bessette Guild participated in the celebration of the White Mass at St. Pius church on October 18, the Feast of St. Luke.  St. Joseph Regional Medical Center sponsored the Mass and dinner afterwards.  Bishop Rhoades was the principal celebrant, and  Fr. Glenn Kohrman, chaplain of the St. Andre Bessette Guild was among the concelebrants.  Before the dinner, Dr. John Rice, president of the Guild, welcomed the participants with some brief remarks.

The White Mass is a traditional way to honor the contributions of Catholic health care workers to the mission of the Church.  It is usually celebrated near the feast of St. Luke, who was a physician before the became an evangelist.  This reminds those in Catholic health care of their twin vocations to heal and to bring the Gospel to others. For some, answering this call may cost them their lives.  Others may be martyrs (or witnesses) in less dramatic but no less important ways.  The current political and social climate ensures that every authentically Catholic physician will endure some trials.  The Catholic Medical Association exists to deepen the faith of its members and to form them into a community of physicians which can more effectively integrate the Faith and the practice of medicine.

Morning of Reflection

The St. Andre Bessette Guild hosted a morning of reflection on November 7, 2015 at Holy Family Church in South Bend.  The morning began with 8 AM Mass in the church.  A light breakfast followed.  Fr. Glenn Kohrman, chaplain of our Guild and pastor of Holy Family Parish led a reflection on Conscience in the Catechism.  Dr. John Rice, guild president, led a reflection on Conscience and the Practice of Medicine. A discussion period followed.

Slides from the two presentations are available on this website: click Archives.
